When reading the article about Generation Always On, I sense a lot of fear. One of their main focuses was the negative affect on patients. I think that this is extremely exaggerated. Just because our youth doesn't have to wait three days to have contact with a friend doesn't mean that we are growing less patient. It just means that we have more efficient technologies at our disposal. There are plenty of activities around us that require patients. These things range from fishing, to anything sports related, to even hobbies. Do people really think you do not need patients to pick up a sport. These fine motor skills do not come overnight. Also, hobbies such as knitting, or smoking meat, take extreme patients. I believe people are looking at this generation with a pessimistic attitude. Instead they should think about the future of the human race. This generation has had infinite learning resources at their disposal since a very young age. I believe that this will lead to a decrease in learning curves and also to the extreme advancement of human society. It is all the way you look at it.
I believe that the study made by Buzzetto is extremely relevant to education in today's society. From his research, especially on Facebook, since it is the foremost leading social networking site, data was collecting supporting some key things. When reading his research, I knew already that there would be a escalation in posting, due to the fact that the students were probably already on Facebook. From there I thought that even if percentages in posting were raising that it would be off topic, which I then was proven to be very wrong. Staggering percentages were shown, presenting the fact that as the semester went on people were posting about important topics more frequently the the professor. I believe that from this study people will be more confident in teaching through social networks. If people start teaching through social networking I think that students will get into their subjects more and enhanced learning will take place.
To be honest with you I have learned a great deal from the internet. I'm not sure if I learned anything from blogs or forums, but online publishings of scholarly papers have greatly increased my knowledge. I believe in the right setting, with a scholarly author, that a blog could be extremely benefitial for educational purposes. I learned most of my knowledge of nutritional supplementation from papers that a nutritionist has posted on the internet. As a coach I wanted to know what was going on inside my players bodies when they took different things, and this nutritionist has helped me. That being said, when I am researching on the internet it can be extremely hard to keep focus. I find it especially difficult when I google search something and I do not find it on the first two pages. This is the point when my brain starts wondering off and I end up looking up something that I didn't intend to. While blogging is not the academic guiding light that some people believe, I cannot disagree that the advances in technology have greatly benefited the public through education. If it weren't for technology we would still be reading books printed on papyrus with the help of our handy dandy lantern.
While having some good view points, I also believe that he had some pointless viewpoints. I completely agree that we are who we are from very little, and that it is just channeled. I believe the core structure of our personality grow, while also picking us some tweaks here and there. The viewpoint that I cannot agree with is what he said about the second myth. He said that we should not focus on our weakness as much. Going on, he to talk about how a primary education student comes home with four A's and an F, and that we shouldn't focus on the F as much. This just came off stupid to me. In a primary education setting, or even a secondary education setting, that F needs to be handled. This is the area of our lives that needs to be the most well rounded. This part of our life is what gets us ready to specialize, which brings me to another stupid thing that he said. He said that we as a culture don't focus on our strengths…….but isn't' that what college is for, specialization? Also, a little side note being he might need to spend a little more time on his weakness, anatomy. Last time I checked humans don't have gizza
I set my twitter up a couple of days ago, and I am still getting use to it. I have been on Facebook for a LONG time now so its not much of a learning curve. I think for educational proposes it could be a great tool, and I know some athletic programs are using it very heavily to keep in touch with their athletes and to make sure they are updated. For these purposes I think it is an excellent idea, but when you start posting unnecessary stuff that I have to read, well then it becomes annoying and I start to drift away from it. This is one of the reasons that I am not on Facebook very much anymore. For educational purposes/coaching tool…yes, but for stupid updates on things that I don't really want to here about…no.
Today I decided to create a Scoop It account. I have linked this account to my website. I liked it because it had a lot of the same functions as tumblr. I love the fact that I can search the web from tumblr and post videos on subjects that matter to me. For instance, today I added a video on the 3-4 outside linebacker technique, as well as add
My name is Kyle Little. I was born in beautiful Naples, FL on August 30, 1991. I group in a military background, so my early childhood was mostly travel. I do not have a negative outlook on this because I got to see beautiful places, such as Okinawa, Japan. After my dad got out of the military we spent most of my prepubescent years in Tampa, FL. In the summer between my 8th grade year and freshman year of high school we moved to Brock, NE Pop. 154. I spent my high school years attending Johnson-Brock Public School. During my senior year I got offered a scholarship to play college football at Concordia University, so away I went to Seward, NE. While playing for Concordia University I started every game junior and senior year. During my senior season I earned All- Conference honors. This is what led me to being a collegiate football coach. After my eligibility was up Concordia University hired my on as the inside linebackers coach. I spent a year coaching my players, but ended up moving to Minnesota to be with my fiancé. After a short period of living through one of the worst Minnesota winters on record I applied for my job here in Tacoma, WA and the rest is history. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/t1.0-9/229996_3621727713206_354756482_n.jpg |
